Across practical, portfolio-building projects you'll develop core capabilities: camera control and exposure, lighting on location and in studio, composition and colour, digital editing and workflow. You'll plan and execute creative briefs from concept to final output, explore visual culture and ethics, and present your work professionally. You'll experiment across genres - portraiture, documentary, commercial and editorial - building versatility and a problem-solving mindset suited to today's image industry.

Beyond the lens, you'll cultivate critical thinking, ethical practice and client communication, preparing you for collaborative, real-world contexts. With opportunities for work placement and structured portfolio development, you'll graduate with a body of work that reflects both personal vision and professional readiness - ready to progress to the HND or step into junior roles and freelance assignments.

You'll develop your skills through practical projects supported by comprehensive learning resources, tutor guidance, assessment materials, and a collaborative community for sharing work and feedback.

Quality assurance: aligned with sector standards including the QAA Quality Code, QAA Subject Benchmark Statements, the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications (FHEQ) and Advance HE principles for academic rigour and professional relevance.

Workload & pacing: approximately 1,200 learning hours - typically one year full-time or two years part-time. Faculty support is available year-round so you can set a study pace that works for you.

Work placement - Graduates of this course are eligible for a one month work placement with a photography company. All placements are made in the greater London, Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh areas.

Classroom-based courses at the National Academy of Creative Arts are the best option for those who prefer studying with others in a physical classroom environment.
As a Classroom-based student you will join other aspiring Interior Designers in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh, Belfast, Cardiff or Bristol for exciting part-time evening or Saturday classes taught by an industry professional. You will also have access to our Online Learning Centre.

Live Online courses at the National Academy of Creative Arts provide all the flexibility of online learning with the collaborative benefits of the classroom.
