Fashion Design

Certificate

Design and make your own garments - learn sketching, pattern cutting, sewing and finishing across five practical assignments.

Hero background

Why this course?

Create clothing you're proud to wear. This beginner-friendly course builds a solid foundation in fashion design and garment construction through five hands-on assignments.

You'll progress step by step: researching inspiration and developing mood boards; sketching and producing technical flats; taking measurements and working with size charts; learning core pattern-cutting methods (blocks, adjustments, simple drafting) and basic draping on the stand. You'll explore fabric properties and grain, practise essential machine skills and seam types, and construct simple garments (e.g., skirt/top/dress) with attention to fit, closures and finishing techniques. You'll also touch on sustainable choices, care labels and presenting your work.

Learning is supported by expert-created resources - video tutorials, written guides and project briefs - and you'll receive regular tutor guidance with detailed feedback on each assignment. By the end, you'll have the confidence and know-how to design, plan and make your own garments, plus a small portfolio of sketches, technical drawings and finished pieces.
